3D MapView issue with Apple's Snow Leopard releasePosted by Olav in Untagged |

With Apples recent OSX 10.6 release aka Snow Leopard the myVR 3D MapView NPAPI plug-in will no longer work with the Safari browser.
This is due to the fact that Apple now has made Safari a full fledged 64-bit application. The 3D MapView NPAPI plug-in is a 32 bit binary and we thought that this would work fine with Safari since the plug-in technically should not need to be a 64 bit binary due to the fact that they are running as a seperate process. But, alas this is no longer the case as the plug-in still needs to communicate with Safari and that means using new 64 bit Cocoa based APIs instead of the old Carbon based NPAPI.
This means we have to develop a new plugin for Safari on Snow Leopard, which is in progress, and we hope to release an update soon. However, there is a work around until we can release a new and updated version of 3D MapView.
Workaround:
You can force Safari to run in 32 bit mode, by selecting Safari in the Finder, and choosing "Get Info" from the menu, which will display the following window as shown below:
Â
Now, select "Open in 32-bit mode", and restart your computer. The next time you run Safari the 3D MapView NPAPI plugin should run as normal again.
Note! The 3D MapView NPAPI plugin will still work for Firefox, or other Mozilla based browsers on Apple OSX 10.6.
