Assign User Properties to objects in 3DS
MAX/VIX
To start using the new object
linking feature available with the myVR v1.5
release, you need to assign user properties to the object you wish to link
with inside your 3DS MAX/VIZ model. You can either link an object to
another model or to a web page. This can be done as follows:
Inter-model linking. Linking
of geometry (objects) to another model
This works as follows:
- When the mouse cursor is
hovering over a linked object it changes to the finger-icon to
indicate that the object shown is also a link. You will also see the
comment text shown as a tool tip text.
- If the user clicks on the
linked object then the linked model specified in the 'url' properties is loaded.
To
link an object to another model in 3D Studio MAX/VIZ do
the following.
- Select the object that
should be linked.
- Right click on the selected
object and choose "Properties" from the popup menu.
- Click on the "User
Defined" tab.
- Enter the following
properties in the text box (on two separate lines):

url=myvr://myvr-software.com/kim/kim.myvr
comment=Click here to view the kim model
Replace
myvr://myvr-software.com/kim/kim.myvr
with the correct url of the model you want to
link to. Please note that the words 'url' and
'comment' must be typed in lowercase letters only. If you need two way linking, please repeat the process with the other
model. See the illustration below for an example:
Linking to a web-page URL
This
works as follows:
- When the mouse cursor is
hovering over the linked object it changes to the finger-icon to
indicate that the object shown is also a link. The comment text is
shown as a tool tip text next to the mouse pointer.
- If the user clicks on the
linked object then the linked webpage specified in the 'url' properties is opened in a separate browser
window.
To
link an object to a webpage in 3D Studio MAX/VIZ do
the following.
- Select the object that
should be linked.
- Right click on the
selected object and choose "Properties" from the popup menu.
- Click on the "User
Defined" tab.
- Enter the following
properties in the text box (on two separate lines):

url=http://www.myvr-software.com
